It has never failed me yet. A one-day road trip or...
I've also had a few relaxing hours on Amtrak from Reno Nevada to San Francisco and I really love trains. I've had day trips to San Francisco from Houston. I arrived early in the morning ate, shopped, watched a movie and took a redeye home. No hotels needed for day trips and thats why I love them.
once you arrive there are so many ways to enjoy and settle in. Some rare trips have 0 cost for rooms and others require sweat equity but offer you shelter and food and there are always hostels.
Upscale or downscale its up to you and how you prefer to spend your time and money.
I've enjoyed the lavish upscale lifestyle at The Ritz Carlton in Bermuda and felt like a king, but I have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Sun Spree and have a blast too and Runaway Bay in Jamaica was also a nice treat without blowing the budget.
For the daring try Couchsurfing they have an app and you can stay at many places around the world for free.
Workaway offers a great experience where you immerse yourself in different cultures and in return for a few modest hours of work you receive meals and a place to rest. the other 18 to 19 hours are yours to do as you please and the hosts have been verified and vetted.
Air BnB has also been a favorite of mine. I stayed at a residence in New Orleans and the hosts must have worked at a bar or distillery because there were about 200 different liquors and libations of almost every kind minus beers and wines. That was a fun weekend in the Big Easy.
We are offering discounts with Air Bnb by the way.
